Sean Harper, M.D.

Sean Harper brings a breadth of expertise to Capsida’s board. From 2002 to 2018, he worked at Amgen, rising to become head of R&D in 2012 and holding several key leadership positions, including as head of Global Regulatory Affairs and Safety and head of Global Development/Corporate Chief Medical Officer. During his time at Amgen, he developed novel platforms and modalities to target some of the most difficult-to-treat diseases and was also instrumental in the strategic deployment of the company’s venture capital funds. Beyond his time at Amgen, Dr. Harper has extensive experience in both basic science research and clinical research and as a practicing physician. He was named by Time as one of the 50 most influential people in healthcare in 2018. Currently, he is a Founding Managing Director at Westlake Village Biopartners, where he leverages his diverse background to identify promising new therapies and technologies and launch life sciences companies to address significant unmet medical needs.

Dr. Harper holds an M.D. from the University of California at San Francisco.
